“1 hour and 20 chapter and I put it up my ass”: The duration of the first episode of ‘The Last of Us’ has not been liked by many, but it was better that way

The series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is now available on HBO Max.

The first episode of The Last of Us, titled ‘When you get lost in the dark’ (1×01), is now available on HBO Max and with it the revelation of its long duration: Nothing less than 1 hour and 20 minutes, approximately.

The average viewer is increasingly accustomed to consuming audiovisual products that are not very long, for this reason they always choose to watch a short series for the typical ‘an episode and to bed’. But with The Last of Us It’s not something many people have been able to do.

But why is it the perfect length for the first episode of The Last of Us? Billed as a movie, the length of the pilot is perfect for introducing the world Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) have to face when they leave the quarantine zone due to the cordyceps fungus that has almost wiped out the entire The humanity.

It is a perfect introduction to the characters and the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us and that we could also see in the video game. If it had been shorter, perhaps the creative decision for how to end the episode would have been with the reveal of Ellie and the mission to escort her to other Fireflies. A rather simple ending.

‘The Last of Us’: 10 details of the first episode that you may have overlooked

Those of us who already know the video game know where they are going and how eager we are to see the clickers in action. That’s the end of the first episode with the sound and image of a clicker on top of a building. They leave us wanting more after a great introduction to the main story.

Being a somewhat complex world, if it had been shorter, the series could have had 10 episodes instead of 9, but the first two sure would have been introductory and many people would not have continued to see it out of laziness. With this length and ending, many are looking forward to what awaits Ellie, Joel and Tess (Anna Torv) behind the walls of the quarantine zone. And believe me it will be quite terrifying.

episode 2 of The Last of Us will premiere on HBO Max next January 23.
