The latest Marvel adventure is already in movie theaters. And this time he wants to earn the nickname of adventure, because ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ is one of the Marvel movies with the most direct heritage from the pulp and classic science fictionplus the comics of yesteryear closer to that spirit of wonder (at least, the boot is purely that).
Therefore, today’s related list will go along that line. Old science fiction movies and some more recent ones that also drink heavily from that kind of fantasy. All with a component of adventure cinema that is perfectly enjoyable with the rest of the familywithout for that reason being too simple.
‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ (‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, 1959)

An essential classic of this school of fantastic cinema, with a figure that acts as a founding pillar: Jules Verne. Henry Levin’s adaptation of his classic also seeks to imagine the possibilities of worlds existing far below us, with a scientific expedition heading into the unknown.
Only these last two elements are a very clear and evident influence in ‘Quantumania’, changing the center of the Earth for the tiny quantum worlds and that the scientific expedition is dragged there. However, the important detail that drags the most is the sense of wonderespecially reflected in the visual designs and effects, which compensate for any aspect that seems too aged.

‘The Big Surprise’ (‘First Men in the Moon’, 1964)

We have gone through Jules Verne, so we must also go through another founding father like HG Wells, whose works have marked young people who have later become artists who have marked the following young people. There are many wonderful adaptations of his work, but perhaps the most appropriate is this incredible trip to the moon that discovers new civilizations.
The exquisite and imaginative special effects by Ray Harryhausen give the special magical touch to this story of the clash of civilizations that also extends its roots to our days via the new ‘Ant-Man’ (at least in the last part). A joyous classic adventure that takes great pleasure in being just that.

‘Strange World’ (‘Strange World’, 2022)

Here we already move the goal and bring a more modern production but that, like ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, has a important debt of the kind of fanciful adventures that we have mentioned previously. It is curious to say the least that two such recent Disney productions share inspirations and spirit.
Already loaded with the label of being the umpteenth failure of Disney animation in this field, the film by Don Hall and Qui Nguyen is more likeable and recommendable than that reputation suggests. A purely family film that knows how to spread the enthusiasm for those classic references and even have a surprising environmental message that does not disrupt its functional formula too much.
