A year and a half after the box of “The flame”, a series inspired by the reality show the “Bachelor”, “Maaaaaarc”, Anne “the null” or Chataléré return in “The torch, the adventurers of Chupacabra”, a parody of “Koh-Lanta”, still signed Jonathan Cohen. The actor, screenwriter, producer and director puts on his bachelor and full of himself airline pilot costume for this sequel in nine 30-minute episodes, broadcast at the rate of three per week from Monday on Canal +.
In the cast: old and new comrades
This time, Marc, who had to choose a lucky winner among 13 contenders in “La Flamme”, lands on a Mexican island for an adventure game in which 16 candidates compete to win the “crazy sum” of 450 euros.
To the many former members of the original cast (Géraldine Nakache, Leïla Bekhti, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Ana Girardot, Camille Chamoux…) are added new comrades such as Jérôme Commandeur (in the role of the presenter), Kad Merad, Gérard Darmon, Jonathan Lambert, youtuber Mister V or comedian Laura Felpin. “I am no longer the main character,” assured Jonathan Cohen in early April at the Canneseries festival, where the first two episodes were screened.
Success of the fall of 2020, with at least “12 million views”, according to a tweet from its creator, “La Flamme” was initially to have a sequel centered on a woman surrounded by suitors. But “we were having a hard time writing. It was a little heated”, explained Jonathan Cohen, who reviewed his copy after the hiring of new authors who suggested a program to him at “Koh-Lanta”, the flagship program of TF1.
“We took six months to write this season, which is very, very short”, he added, while the start of filming was maintained as planned in September 2021 in Corsica. The operation proved to be all the more complicated as the authors, who had been inspired for “La Flamme” by the American format “Burning Love” produced by Ben Stiller, this time started “from zero”.
But the “ideas abounded, it was fluid”, according to the interpreter of “Serge le mytho”, recently seen at the cinema in “At the same time”, by Gustave Kervern and Benoît Delépine. Could a next season parodying “The Voice” or “The Star Academy” be considered? “We don’t know at the moment,” replied Jonathan Cohen, while noting the potential of the “singers” in his cast.
