L’Astrada welcomes this Saturday, January 28, from 8:30 p.m., one of the most famous double bass virtuosos in the world: Renaud Garcia-Fons, with “Le souffle des corde”. With 15 albums to his credit, Renaud Garcia-Fons develops music at the crossroads of world music, jazz, classical music and traditional music. With “The breath of the strings”, the five-string double bassist wanted to go even further in the meeting of classical and traditional instruments by surrounding himself with Derya Turkan (kemençe), Serkan Halili (qanoûn), Kiko Ruiz ( flamenco guitar), Florent Brannens (violin), Amandine Ley (violin), Aurelia Souvignet (viola) and Jean-Philippe Martignoni (cello).
In its essence, this project, combining both the compositions of Renaud Garcia-Fons and improvisation, is the result of a real writing process that respects the authenticity of the playing, style and culture of these traditional instruments. to take us from the Mediterranean to the Far East.
Double bass, flamenco guitar, violin, viola…
Derya Turkan (kemençe) and Serkan Halili (qanoûn) represent Ottoman and Middle Eastern music, while Kiko Ruiz, on flamenco guitar, instills the fervor of flamenco rhythms as well as its lyricism. Florent Brannens, Amandine Ley, Aurélia Souvignet and Jean-Philippe Martignoni, all members of the “Radio France” philharmonic orchestra, structure the entire repertoire by bringing to it the rigor of Western-style chamber music. Finally, the double bass of Renaud Garcia-Fons constitutes a true “link” between these different musical worlds, but also between written and improvised music.
