A topless feminist activist entered the red carpet of the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Friday May 20 to denounce the sexual violence suffered by Ukrainian women.

Friday, May 20, around 6:30 p.m., the usual parade of stars of the Cannes festival was disrupted by the irruption of a feminist activist. Dressed in simple panties smeared with red paint, the young woman had painted her bare chest yellow and blue and wrote on her chest “stop raping us” or in French “stop violating us”. The protest only lasted a few seconds. The activist, positioned in front of the photographers, was quickly caught up and covered with a coat by the security services.

At 7 p.m., about half an hour after the incident, SCUM a French collective of “radical feminist activists” claimed responsibility for this protest.

The war in Ukraine has once again invited itself to the Cannes Film Festival. The SCUM, indicated that their activist “carried out this action to denounce the war rapes suffered by Ukrainian women”. The red of her panties symbolizing the rapes, assaults and sexual tortures committed by Russian soldiers on Ukrainian women.

As early as April 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski alerted the international community to the increase in rapes. “Hundreds of cases of rape have been recorded, including those of underage girls and very small children. Even a baby! It’s scary just to talk about it,” he said. Since then, several investigations have been launched by Ukrainian justice and the International Criminal Court to be able to judge his rapes used as a weapon of war.
