“Superbarket”, a title inspired by the latest giant shopping center in Carcassonne, will be released on Friday, February 3. To accompany it, the Aude group MAN & The Maniacs recorded a live session, to discover online.
It smells good of Bisphenol A, as we say at MAN & The Maniacs since the release of the double single “Chemically Yours” in 2020, which marked the beginning of the adventure of this Aude power quartet with a sublime horn (we said ” horn”). After a sumptuous 1st eponymous album at the end of 2021, the group has just announced the release, on February 3, of a new single and a live session to accompany it on video, shot “at home” in Malves- en-Minervois, to discover on his YouTube channel.
“Plastic is not fantastic”
Fed up with the rock bands of the 70s, Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Airplane among others, and their modern grandchildren The Alabama Shakes or Alt-J, MAN & The Maniacs glide gracefully between protest pop and voodoo rock, lipstick a nothing smeared on the stormy sea that is ours. In all conscience, with what the climate inaction and the marketing boom promise us of crap, the clip of “Superbarket” says it in four words: “Plastic is not fantastic”. Filmed by director Martin Gillod in a setting of clinical tarpaulins, it prefigures a future EP entitled “Fight the culture”, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2023.
“Show the energy that emanates between us”
“I wrote it while passing near Rocadest in Carcassonne, where there are (too) many supermarkets… Cry of despair in the verses, ironic pop in the choruses, we like to work on this contrast. We wanted release it in live session to show the energy that emanates between us, and also the originality of the horn playing the bass”, says MAN, singer-songwriter Marina Anne Nolles.
