Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy to star in new Super Mario movie

The animation project will hit theaters in the United States on December 21, 2021.

Super Mario Bros. comes back to life in movie form. The new production carries MARIO by title -yes, in capital letters- and it has a luxurious cast that makes it very appealing. As announced by Nintendo, Chris Pratt has been chosen to voice the famous character in the new animation film developed by Illumination -the same from Gru, my favorite villain O Lorax-.

Next to him, a long list of names to which better. We review: Anya Taylor-Joy (Lady’s gambit) it will be Peach, Charlie Day (Hanging in Philly) gives voice to Luigi, Jack Black (Jumanji) will give life to Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu) it will be Toad, Seth Rogen (Spree to the end) has signed up to be Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) will play Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson (Invincible) it will be Kamek y Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book) will give voice to Spike.

Among the long list that Nintendo has shared, the name of Charles Martinet also appears, the original voice of Mario in the video game saga. Martinet will have a surprise cameo, so fans of the jumping man will have to pay close attention and keep their ears wide open. A cameo that, on the other hand, is possibly only possible to find in the original version of the film.

In addition to confirming the cast that will participate in the film, the company has also revealed the date on which it will arrive in theaters. Mark in red on December 21, 2021 because that will be when Mario and his teammates hit the billboards.

The project was announced in 2017, with producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri on board. MARIO will bring the Nintendo icon to the big screen for the second time in history. The first was in 1993, when Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper and Samatha Mathis gave life to the mythical characters in the film. Super Mario Bros., which had a lukewarm reception among the public.
