Everything we know about season 4 of ‘The Boys’: An unexpected return, crossovers with other series and new superheroes

The series created by Eric Kripke already has a spin-off released such as ‘The Boys: Diabolical’ and another pending release titled ‘Gen V’.

Season 3 of The Boys has come to an end on Prime Video on July 8, 2022 with the episode ‘The wild white-hot instant’ (3×08) and many are looking forward to the premiere of the fourth installment. Few Amazon Prime Video series have been as unanimously received as this superheroic prank and any step it can take in the future is of interest.

This latest installment we have been able to see how Patriota (Antony Starr) has embraced his more paternal side when he found out that Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) was his biological father. To such an extent that Butcher (Karl Urban) decided at the last moment to end the parody of Captain America before his faithful archenemy.

On the other hand, Maeve (Dominique McElligott) decides to sacrifice herself so that Soldier Boy’s power would not affect others, even though it would also kill Patriot, with whom she has been fighting in the Vought building. Finally, Soldier Boy ends up back in a fridge, Black Noir ends up dead, Patriot meets her son with whom she has become very close and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) joins the group of these anti-heroes.

But what are the plans for season 4? Next, we leave you everything we know about this long-awaited installment that promises more violence, blood, guts, new superheroes and crossovers.

When does season 4 of ‘The Boys’ premiere?

Unfortunately, no release date yet from season 4 of The Boys. But it is expected to do so sometime in 2023, a year after the premiere of the third, just as it happened with the first and second installments. For the last one we have had to wait two years due to the problems of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Another option is for it to be released in 2024, since filming for the episodes hasn’t started until August 2022 and, traditionally, more than a year passes between the start of recording and their arrival on Amazon. If we do the math, The Boys season 4 wouldn’t be released until December 2023, so it could easily be pushed back to the following year.

Who comes back and who doesn’t?

Season 3 has ended with several cliffhangers regarding the future of various characters, such as Maeve. However, she survives the fall of the Vought building along with Soldier Boy, but without powers. And it seems, It will not be a final farewell.

The death that was confirmed is that of Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). However, its creator, Eric Kripke, has revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that It will not be the last we will see of this hero of the Sevenand:

It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero. Only the guy who was inside Noir’s suit in season 3 is gone.

He has also taken the opportunity to explain that the actor who is in the superhero’s costume will return for season 4 playing a very interesting and fun new character who could be copying Black Noir in terms of costume.

new superheroes

The Seven are definitely separated. This means that the gaps left will have to be filled in so that they are again seven:

I think it’s time to bring a couple of new superheroes to The Seven that will be much more along the lines of madness than Patriot.” Explains Eric Kripke. “You’re going to stack the deck with much more dangerous heroes than we’ve seen so far.”

Antony Starr (‘The Boys’): “I don’t think the surrender of Patriota is possible”

The creator has not given many details about who would be those superheroes that would accompany Profundo (Chace Crawford) and Patriota in this new adventure against the clock against the protagonists where Butcher is close to dying due to the compound V you have been taking.

The signings of Susan Heyward, Valerie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself, whom we all remember for being Negan in the walking dead. Two images of Heyward and Curry characterized as Sister Sage and Firecracker have also been released.

Crossovers with other series

Amazon Prime Video knows the success it has at hand and that is why it wants to expand it with other projects. One of them is already available on the streaming platform and it is about The Boys: Diabolical, an anthological animated series where one of its stories tells the origins of Patriota.

And Gen V is also pending release, another spin-off that revolves around a group of teenagers who attend the only university in the United States exclusively for teenage superheroes in which its second season is already being worked on. But will there be a crossover with some of them? The creator has confirmed that there will be:

There’s definitely crossover and we’re doing our best to craft a universe out of some of the issues and stories seen in Season 3 and transitioning them into the first season of Varsity.

And… many more grotesque scenes

The Boys It wouldn’t be what it is if it didn’t make the viewer a little uncomfortable and we can be sure that the episodes of season 4 will continue to do so. As published by Stephen Fleet, special effects supervisor, on Twitter, there is a scene that will give a lot to talk about. “My eyes can not forget what they have just seen,” he wrote on the social network and, by the way, made the fans of the series long teeth.

Also, a person who works as a visual effects supervisor has stated that he had just seen one of the most disgusting things he has ever seen at this job. To which his creator, Eric Kripke, has quickly replied, who honestly had to ask himself which one he was referring to of the many that have surely already been filmed.

Of course, all the madness has to be conducted logically. The ‘showrunner’ stated in an interview with SensaCinema that if an episode required four weeks of preparation, three and a half weeks were focused on the characters and the remaining time included the madness. “The secret sauce of this show is that we never try to outdo ourselves,” says Kripke.
