On the occasion of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 17 to 28, four cinemas in the department are broadcasting the opening night. In Samatan and Mirande, the red carpet will be out this Tuesday, May 17.
The flashes of the cameras should crackle this Tuesday, May 17 in front of the Samatan cinema, which is organizing a “Cannasamatan” evening on the occasion of the opening of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. “We allowed ourselves to be taken on board in a proposal from the French Association of Arthouse Cinemas and the National Federation of French Cinemas, explains Corinne Flourence, member of the Samatanese association. In addition, the cinema Jean- Claude-Brialy has steps, so visitors can really climb them.” The play on words with Cannes, for a city of ducks, was also obvious to the organizers.
The fervor of the Cannes Film Festival also affected Mirande’s cinema. “When we learned that we could participate in this action, we did not hesitate, assures Claire Fourcade, host of the Astarac cinema. For once, the small rooms can project the opening film at the same time as the larger ones , we were not going to miss this opportunity.”
Sequins and red carpet
Samatan and Mirande will therefore take on the air of Croisette this Tuesday. For one evening, the premises will be transformed into the Festival Palace. For this, the Samatanese association turned to a company in Blajan which recovers old theater and cinema sets. “We found a red carpet that we are going to roll out on the steps, specifies Corinne Flourence. The hotel complex also provided us with the red cords”. Photographers are also provided to cover the event. Visitors, on the other hand, are invited to climb the steps in evening dress. “We leave it up to the viewers to define evening dress“, assures Corinne Flourence, with a touch of humor in her voice. In Mirande too, sequins and red carpet will be there, “to mark the occasion”, announces Claire Fourcade.
From 7 p.m., the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, presented by actress Virginie Efira, will be broadcast live in theaters. At 8:30 p.m., the opening film will be shown in preview. “Cut!”, directed by Michel Hazanavicius with Romain Duris and Bérénice Bejo, is a comedy that follows the shooting of a zombie movie in a disused building, during which authentic undead burst in. This film is presented out of competition at the 2022 Festival. The Gersois will therefore be able to discover it at the same time as the guests of the “real” Cannes festival.
Two other Gers cinemas at Cannes time
The opening night of the Cannes Film Festival will also be broadcast in the cinemas of Auch and Marciac. At Ciné 32, access to the room will be free for the ceremony at 7 p.m., then the screening of the film will be at the usual price. The Guinguette will be open between the two parties.
