Bruce Willis’ illness, which ended his career in 2022, has worsened and the actor now suffers from an incurable form of dementia, his family announced on Thursday February.
Bruce Willis initially suffered from aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage. But since last year, “Bruce’s disease has progressed and we now have a more precise diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia”, explained his relatives in a press release.
A disease similar to Alzheimer’s
Dementia or frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) is a neurodegenerative disease, related to Alzheimer’s disease. But unlike the latter, which affects almost the entire brain, FTD mainly affects the frontal and temporal lobes located in the anterior and lateral parts of the brain.

People with FTD may experience memory problems, behavioral changes, or difficulty speaking or moving.
Lack of effective treatment
Dementia is a slow and progressive decline in cognitive function with impairment of the memory system, thinking, judgment and learning. the degenerative phenomenon and the lack of effective treatment. “Today, there is no cure for this disease, a reality that we hope will change in the years to come,” the family added.
