Let’s open the melon of the new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies: What can and can’t Warner do with the rights it owns?

“Look, the producers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are kind of like a second family that I’ve been a part of and have done so many movies with. And let me tell you, they are the best and most amazing people to work with. I think there are many other possible Middle-earth projects that could come up, and if they’re doing them, of course, I would love the chance to rekindle that relationship.…”, Serkins confessed about the possibility of participating in the new films of The Lord of the rings from Warner Bros.

Serkins makes it clear that if Jackson, Walsh and Boyens are on the project, he would reprise Gollum. “Middle earth has never left me“, has assured the actor while showing his affection for the successful saga. However, the producers and the director are not involved in this expansion of the saga although they have left a window open to a possible participation in statements for Deadline: “Warner Bros and Embracer have been keeping us informed every step of the way […] We look forward to continuing to speak with them to hear their side of where the franchise is going.”

Still it has not been confirmed what exactly those movies are in development, but speculation has arisen about Warner Bros. plans. The rumors that have gained the most strength have been the installments focused on characters, such as Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Bilbo (Ian Holm, now deceased) and Aragorn ( Vigo Mortensen).
