Moissac. Tribute to the Kabyle poet Slimane Azem

The association “Les Amis de Slimane Azem” organizes on Saturday January 29, 2022, a day tribute to the great poet, singer and composer-performer Kabyle Slimane Azem, who died in 1983.

He was born in 1918 in the heart of the Kabyle mountains in Algeria, and will join France in 1937. It is in France and France that he will sing in the Kabyle language his odes to Love, to the Country, but also to resistance. in the face of oppression wherever it comes from. He moved to Moissac where for twenty-five years he had a humble life as a peasant poet, with his wife Lucienne. He died in 1983 and is buried in the municipal cemetery of Moissac. A few years ago, a space in downtown Moissac was named after him: the Slimane Azem garden.
