Rebecca Hall is the director of Chiaroscuro, the original drama which, after its theatrical release, hits Netflix this week. Inspired by the novel Harlem Renaissance by Nella Larsen, the film takes us back to New York in the late 1920s. On the eve of the Great Depression, the story follows Clare, a woman who hides her African-American ancestry and marries a white man, who supports the racism. On the other hand, one of her childhood friends, Irene, has preferred to continue by the side of her community, despite knowing that she will be rejected for it in the jobs she aspires to.

7 prisoners

7 prisoners is the title of another of the original feature films that Netflix premieres this week. Directed by Alexandre Moratto, the film tells the story of Mateus, an 18-year-old young man who starts working in a junkyard in his neighborhood, in Sao Paulo. His boss, Luca, makes him believe that he will not find a better place to work. However, soon Mateus and several of his colleagues begin to be aware of the labor exploitation to which they are subjected. Now they must decide if they are going to report him to get out of there as soon as possible, or if they will stay as they are for fear of reprisals that Luca may take.

Red alert

Another of Netflix’s original feature films that joins the platform’s catalog a week after its theatrical release is the action thriller Red alert. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson, the film tells the story of three secret agents who, after receiving the notice of ‘Red Alert’, join the search and capture of a thief who has stolen valuable pieces of art.
