The first season of The Last of Us has already come to an end and with it the expectation of what season 2 will be about, although to those who have played the video game The Last of Us: Part II They already know what they are going to find and are more mentally prepared than those who have only seen the series.

This has been confirmed by its own co-creator, Craig Mazin, in a recent interview with Deadline When asked about the number of infected that have appeared in the series, they have gone from more to less throughout the entire first season:
Part of the adaptation process is trying to figure out how to take the source material that was built around the game and transfer it to a medium that’s passive. And much of the game focused on non-playable characters that you have to get around by avoiding, stealth-killing, or just engaging them. Those are your choices when fair. And the NPCs were raiders or cannibals or infected. I will say that even though we had the green light for one season, Neil and I felt we could just do one season without considering what came next. There is a part 2 of the video game that will be adapted as it is in the series, so that there may be more infected in season 2 is highly possible, as explained by its creator:
It is quite possible that there will be many more infected later. And maybe different types. But within the episodes that we were concentrating on, I think we generally emphasized the power of relationships and tried to find meaning within the moments of action. So there may be less action than some people wanted, because we couldn’t necessarily find meaning for a lot of it or it became repetitive. After all, you’re not playing it. You are seeing it. And while a lot of people like to watch the game, it needs to be a bit more focused and useful when we show it on TV.
season 2 of The Last of Us will once again feature Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joe and Ellie, respectively, but with the detail that there will be a time jump in which Ellie is already 19 years old.
