Both actors starred with Kristen Stewart in the adaptation of the saga of novels written by Stephenie Meyer.
The Twilight Saga It was a giant leap to fame for its protagonists. Especially for the three actors who played the main love triangle in the story created by Stephenie Meyer: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. On the big screen they brought to life respectively Beautiful swan, Edward Cullen and Jack Black. The story was told in five films from 2008 to 2012, and the rivalry between Edward and Jacob for the love of Bella went a bit way over the big screen. At least, that has recently been recognized by one of the protagonists.
The fans of the saga created the team edward and the Team Jacob and, of course, you had to join one of them and defend the chosen one. Now, Lautner has told in the podcast of his wife -who is also called Taylor Lautner– titled The Toast how that rivalry affected his friendship with Pattinson.
Lautner recalled that the response from the fans was “very strange” and that promoting the franchise meant “being in different cities having thousands of fans screaming about being on your side on the other guy’s side”.

“I was so young”says the actor. “He was 16 years old when Twilight premiered, 17 with new Moon and Eclipse. I finished the franchise when I was 19 years old,” he says.
Lautner has also said that he would have liked the rivalry between his character and Pattinson’s to have been left alone on the big screen. As account:
We were a team. We were both trying to make the best movies. But it was a little weird, the competitiveness. There was no competition between me and Rob, but having that constant memory, it definitely had an impact.
Finally, Lautner has acknowledged that he understood that most of the fans opted for Edward after seeing the movies again in a hotel while he was bored. “While watching them I was like, ‘I get it. Jacob’s a little annoying.’ Like, I love Jacob and his heart, but he’s a little annoying.”.
