Whether directly via the HBO television channel or via its streaming platform, the latest episode of the series “The Last of Us” performed well by achieving its best audience to date in the United States. 8.2 million viewers followed the outcome of the popular series, revealed Warner Media according to data from Nielsen.
And yet, the challenge was daunting since the broadcast of the last episode coincided with the Oscars ceremony, this Sunday, March 12. “The Last of Us” even offered itself the luxury of achieving a better score than the previous episode which had nevertheless attracted 8.1 million fans.
The series, which continues to make the buzz on social networks, created a sensation in the world of series, making Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey the new darlings of social networks. Its popularity has only intensified since the broadcast of the very first episode of the season which had then gathered 4.7 million viewers. Between the first and the last episode of the series, the audience therefore increased by 75%, Warner Media said in its press release. “The Last of Us” joined “House of the Dragon” in achieving the best launch on HBO since “Boardwalk Empire” in 2010.
The first season of “The Last of Us” series averaged 30.4 million US viewers over the first six episodes across all platforms. The first episode is approaching 40 million viewers.
The series, based on the video game of the same name, was launched in January 2023 on HBO in the United States and on Prime Video in France. The story takes place 20 years after a pandemic decimated humanity. We follow the journey of Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, whose mission is to get Ellie out, played by Bella Ramsey, a 14-year-old girl from the quarantine zone. They must then travel the United States and escape the infected people to try to survive.
