The protagonist of ‘Love is in the air’ makes the leap to the big screen with this Iranian film about the life of the poet Rumi.
Hande Erçel makes the big leap to the cinema. After succeeding on the small screen, the protagonist of Love is in the air is about to release his first film, which is titled Mest-i Ask, O Drunk on Love internationally. The actress debuts with this co-production between Iran and Turkey that will be released in 2021, if there is no delay. Drunk on Love it’s a ‘biopic’ centered on the poet Yalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, better known simply as Rumi. He was a religious scholar who had a great impact on Persian, Urdu, and Turkish culture. After his death, his followers created the Sufi order Mevlevi. Being such an influential figure, it is not surprising that they wanted to transfer his life to the big screen.
According to the official synopsis, the film focuses on Rumi’s friendship with Shams Tabrizi. The two men had a very close relationship, and Shams had a great influence on Rumi’s life, her poetry, and her love for God.
Hande Erçel plays Kimia-Khatoon, Rumi’s stepdaughter and Shams’s lover. Along with her participate actors such as Parsa Piruzfar and Shahab Hosseini, who give life to the protagonists Rumi and Shams, respectively. Bensu Soral (Içerde: Nothing is what it seems), Boran Kuzum (Hakan, the protector), Burak Tozkoparan (Paramparça: Crossed Lives) y Halit Ergenc (Vatanim Sensin) complete the cast.
The film is directed by director Hassan Fathi, also the film’s screenwriter.
