This is how Casio tried to succeed in the world of video games with a console “aimed at women” that only had 10 games

Casioone of the most popular brands today as a result of the conflict between Shakira and Piquéhe made his first steps in the industry long before they debuted some of the best games ever. In 1995, as can be read in the brief Wikipedia of the product, users had the opportunity to enjoy Casio Loopya home console from the company that opted for the 32 bit and for a particular vision of the market that, in the end, ended up condemning the system: It was focused on the female audience.

Thus, in October 1995, the unknown console of the watch firm debuted in the Asian country, a maneuver with which they tried to penetrate (unfortunately unsuccessfully) in the competitive world of game consoles. However, decisions such as opting for a single type of audience, reaching the market at the same price as a Super Nintendo (25,000 yen, just under 180 euros with current inflation) or have a catalog of just 10 games they ended up ruining Casio’s dream. And just 3 years later, the firm opted for discontinue production by Loopy.

Casio Loopy had 10 games and only 3 years of life

As we said in the previous paragraph, the system’s stock selection stood out for its little variety. This is due to the fact that Casio, in view of the failure in sales of the product, decided to stop the development of video games in November 1996barely 1 year later of the debut of the system. And this, in the end, resulted in the cessation of production of the console in December 1998. At that time, the Casio Loopy catalog consisted of the following games:

  1. Anime Land
  2. Bow-wow Puppy Love Story
  3. Dream Change: Kokin-chan’s Fashion Party
  4. HARIHARI Seal Paradise
  5. I Want a Room in Loopy Town!
  6. Little Romance
  7. Lupiton’s Wonder Palette
  8. Chakra-kun’s Charm Paradise
  9. Cartoon Artist
  10. PC Collection

As a curiosity, it should be noted that Casio Loopy had a integrated color thermal printer that allowed to create stickers from screenshots. In addition, the company also released magical shop, an optional accessory that gave the possibility of capturing video to add text to it and, thanks to the printer, turning these creations into stickers. Finally, the console had a port for a standard gamepad or a mouse, a product that could be purchased separately or together with proposals such as the PC Collection or Lupiton’s Wonder Palette.
