2023 may be one of the most anticipated years in terms of new series premieres. The Last of Us, Dune: The Sisterhood, the live action version of Netflix’s One Piece, Ahsoka… But Prime Video is crowned with the Spanish series that everyone will be talking about in 2023.

We are talking about Reina Roja, the series based on the successful novel of the same name by Juan Gómez-Jurado of which we already know its entire main cast. Andrea Trepat, Celia Freijeiro, Vicenta N’Dongo, Karmele Larrinaga, Pere Brasó, Fernando Guallar and Eduardo Noriega join the already confirmed Hovik Keuchkerian and Vicky Luengo.

Trepat plays Sandra, a woman who seemed like a circumstantial piece of the case and that ends up becoming a real headache for the protagonist Antonia Scott. Freijeiro, on the other hand, gives life to Carla Ortiz, the daughter of a textile magnate who discovered during her captivity that she is stronger than anyone thought and the center of the kidnapping case that Jon and Antonia are facing.

On the other hand, Guallar plays the Guard Jurado Tomás, a new character who treasures an important clue for the case and many reasons to make Jon Gutiérrez tremble. N’Dongo is the forensic Aguado, one of the main assets of the Red Queen organization and the woman whom Antonia Scott respects the most for her intelligence. Larrinaga gives life to Maritxu, Jon’s mother and quite a character. Brasó is Brujo Lejarreta, a journalist with a dangerous fixation on Jon, the result of an arrest in the past. And Noriega is Jaume Soler, a mysterious guy related to Antonia’s past.

Hovik Keuchkerian as Jon in Red Queen

Due to the millions of readers that the Juan Gómez-Jurado trilogy has had, Red Queen from Prime Video could easily be the series of the year 2023 due to its shocking story, its twists and its characters that have captivated many Spaniards.

With an IQ of 242, the story revolves around Antonia Scott being officially the smartest person on Earth. Her intelligence earned her to become the Red Queen of a secret and experimental police project, but what seemed like a gift turned into a curse and he ended up losing everything.

When the son of a powerful tycoon appears grotesquely murdered in his mansion and the daughter of the richest man in Spain is kidnapped, the Reina Roja organization is launched. Mentor, Antonia’s former boss, turns to Jon Gutiérrez, a Basque and temperamental policeman about to be expelled from the force, to reactivate Antonia. The twisted game of cat and mouse that Jon and Antonia find themselves involved in during their investigation will also serve to discover that they admire and complement each other almost as much as they annoy each other.

The main cast is completed by Alex Brendemühl as Mentor; Nacho Fresneda as Ezequiel; Urko Olazábal as Inspector Parra; Emma Suarez as Laura Trueba; and Selam Ortega as Ladybug. Its premiere on Prime Video is expected to do so sometime in 2023.
