Vidyut Jammwal: Using body doubles will be like lying to myself and the audience

When it comes to action movies, there are many who believe that Bollywood can never be on par with Hollywood. But, Vidyut Jammwal, who is undoubtedly one of the best action stars in India, doesn’t agree.

The ‘Junglee’ actor says, “I would like these naysayers to open their mind; once they do that, they will realise that we have limitless potential. If I have made it to the list of top 10 martial artistes in the world, it’s because I believe in that limitlessness and also, as an industry, we have proved ourselves. Maybe, they just don’t see it.”

Talking about the action, Vidyut is known for performing every stunt without using a body double. Ask what makes him so fearless and he replies, “Fear is something we all feel. Anyone who calls himself fearless hasn’t experienced life. Every time I perform a risky stunt, for example, if I have to jump from one building to another, I think of all possible risks before taking that leap. But then, I let my fears go and perform the stunt. It’s called taking a calculated risk. I don’t avoid any situation. I face fear and then I overcome it. I believe that taking a risk and achieving something is better than playing it safe and not achieving anything.”

He adds, “Also, I joined the industry to become an action star. If I start using body doubles, it will be like lying to myself and the audience. I love the thrill of performing challenging stunts; why will I allow someone else to enjoy it? I want to experience every single scene, even if it is playing dead for 10 minutes. If I don’t do it today, I will become lazy and end up like many actors who left action.”
