What happened to Jonathan Rhys Meyers: He succeeded under the orders of Woody Allen and ‘The Tudors’ but alcohol and fights led him to have problems with the law

Without a doubt, the title that catapulted him to fame was Match Point, directed by Woody Allen and co-starring Scarlett Johansson. The film only got one nomination for the oscar, for Best Original Screenplay. He didn’t take it.

In addition to joining the saga Mission Impossible in Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), in 2007 he signed as Henry VIII in fiction the tudors. Thanks to his role, Meyers was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama. In 2010 the series ended and, although the actor continued adding titles to his filmography, none was a hit.

In 2010 he again received treatment for his alcoholism. But in 2017, after his wife, actress Mara Lane, miscarried when she was pregnant with her second child, she relapsed at a Dublin airport. In 2018, he again had another alcohol-related altercation. This starred him with his wife, who drew attention for a fight at the Los Angeles airport. In November 2020 he crashed his car in Malibu (California) and tested positive for breathalyzer.

Regarding the incident that took place with his wife at LAX, the actress shared the following on her Instagram account: “Eight months sober and one unfortunate day of air travel. We were in South America specifically working holistically through the problems of anger that result from these types of episodes.When you are like this you are not in a state of mind where you can truly understand the repercussions and necessary response to your own actions. Jonathan is very sorry for the inconvenience caused to anyone who traveled yesterday. There was no discussion. I only asked him not to use his electronic cigarette, requested by the flight attendant, and he was not himself, speaking in a very unkind way“.

In an interview with Larry King in 2018, Meyers discussed his problems with alcohol: “I shouldn’t drink. I don’t feel well and I’ve been sober for a long time”.

meyers too has attempted suicide twice. The first time was in 2011. The second in 2016. In the latter, the paramedics responded to an emergency call and found the actor lying on the ground. The police became involved in the event after the interpreter refused to receive treatment for about 30 minutes.

At the end of 2016 he had his first child with his wife. “Once you have had your first child you become the past. We are all busy moving forward. A child gives you a new perspective on life”the actor stated.

Facing his future as an actor, Meyers has a few projects on his hands. For the most part, the interpreter will star in ‘thrillers’ and action films.
